PAGE TWENTY-FIVE

Panel 1. We cut to a wide establishing shot of the Devil's Rock lighthouse. Behind it, the bay, the city and bridge. The word balloon will come from the background, near the bridge.

Lye: MAYBE HE DOESN'T HAVE TO….

Panel 2. The top of the lighthouse. A Buck Rogers-esque raygun is mounted on the tower next to the light. Standing on the platform, fiddling with it, is a tall, gaunt man with a ring of black hair around an otherwise balding head. He wears a long white lab coat. Do you remember the mad scientist from the first Max Fleischer Superman cartoon? This guy, "Lodestone," looks a lot like him.

Caption: "LODESTONE HAD SET UP SHOP IN THE OLD DEVIL'S ROCK LIGHTHOUSE, A HUNDRED-FOOT TOWER OVERLOOKING BLACKWATER BAY, WITH A PERFECT VIEW OF THE BRIDGE…

Lodestone: THE FOOLS!

Panel 3. Medium close-up on Lodestone as he turns to look back across the span of Blackwater Bay toward the great bridge. Perhaps, he's leaning on the railing.

Lodestone: ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED! WITH THE CITY'S MONEY, I COULD HAVE FINANCED MY EXPERIMENTS FOR YEARS!

Lodestone: BUT NOW… NOW THEY WILL PAY THE PRICE FOR IGNORING MY DEMANDS…

Panel 4. Dramatically posed next to his "electro-magneto" raygun, one hand on a big switch lever, the other raised in a balled fist over his head in egomaniacal defiance.

Lodestone: …AS THEIR GREATEST MONUMENT COMES TUMBLING DOWN UPON THEM!

Noir: (off-panel) YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING.
