Page Twelve
Panel 1. Back in the narrator's office, as he types away on his Underwood.
Caption: "Of course, I can't prove that Vanessa DeMilo is our mystery lady. But I can make a good case for it.
Panel 2. The narrator picks up the second picture – that of Miss Dahlia Blue.
Caption: "Problem is, I can make a strong case for my other suspects, too.
Panel 3. Large panel filling the lower two-thirds of the page. This is a large establishing shot of the inside of the Club Selene nightclub. A swing band occupies an elaborately designed art deco bandstand, and a Benny Goodman-esque band leader plays clarinet at the front of the stage before a microphone. Several couples dance on the dance floor. The remainder of the luxuriously appointed room is crowded with tables occupied by the city's young and beautiful. Waiters and cigarette girls weave between the tables. It's a happy, party atmosphere.
