Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for treatment of leprosy. It may be used in combination with other drugs. It is also used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, usually occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It can also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as ordered by your doctor. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you can take it with meal to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection completely, take Dapsone for the full course of curing. Keep taking it even if you feel better in several days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time daily.
More Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this medication. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, visit your physician. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Do not take less or more or take it more often than recommended by your physician.
